🗓️ The NT nomination program for Skilled Migration will open on 24 November 2025 for new applications across all onshore and offshore streams.
This means temporary visa holders already residing in the Northern Territory (onshore applicants) can submit their application for NT Government nomination starting on this date.
What Do These Visas Offer You?
For temporary visa holders already working or studying in the NT, a successful nomination from the NT Government can lead to:
1. Skilled Nominated (Subclass 190) Visa – Permanent Residency 🏠

This is a permanent visa that lets you live and work anywhere in Australia indefinitely.

The NT Government expects you to live and work in the Territory for at least three years after your visa is granted.
2. Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) (Subclass 491) Visa – Pathway to PR 🛣️

This is a 5-year provisional visa that allows you and your family to live, work, and study in a designated regional area (which includes the entire Northern Territory).

After holding this visa and meeting certain income and residency criteria (typically for three years), you may be eligible to apply for the Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Subclass 191 visa.

The NT Government expects you to live and work in the NT for at least three years after your visa is granted.
Are You Ready to Apply?
While the NT nomination criteria can be complex, especially for current temporary visa holders (NT Graduates, NT Residents, etc.), here are the core requirements you generally must meet for the Department of Home Affairs and the NT Government:

- Age – Must be under 45 at the time of nomination.
- Skills Assessment – Must have a valid, positive skills assessment for your nominated occupation.
- English – Must meet the Competent English level (or higher if required by your assessing authority).
- Points Test – Must score a minimum of 65 points on the Department of Home Affairs skilled migration points test.
- Commitment – Must demonstrate a genuine commitment to live and work in the NT for at least three years after the visa is granted.
